DC Region Hottest for Growing Companies, Tech Industry Strong
Thursday, August 28th, 2008 - by Becky Sheetz-RunkleInc. magazine just released its 2008 Inc. 500 listing. The below comes to us from Inc. and complete information on this year’s list is at www.inc5000.com.
Although this year’s set of fastest-growing private companies was 14% below last year’s combined revenue of $16 billion, there’s much to celebrate. Sales for this year’s top 50 outstrip last year’s top 50 by $541 million. And, this year’s 50 best achieved a full 47 percent jump in average three-year growth from last year’s batch.
There’s even more good news in the Washington, D.C. region. This metro area has 39 Inc. 500 companies. This makes D.C. the top metro area for the sixth consecutive year. We’re followed by New York City with 31. Also noteworthy is that the largest business category is IT Services, with 67 Inc. 500 companies. Business Services (59 companies), Advertising & Marketing, and Government Services (35 companies each), and Software (28 companies) round out the top five industries ranked on the 2008 Inc. 500.
More good news for the IT world: The industry reporting the highest total revenue from 2004 to 2007 is Computers & Electronics ($2.1 billion). Next were Energy ($1.3 billion), Government Services ($1.2 billion), IT Services ($974.2 million), and Real Estate ($909.3 million).
